Basically, Spark never makes the main window wide enough to fit all gateways on (if they are enabled by Openfire) so essentially, the best thing to do is to make a second bar which is purely dedicated to the gateways.

OR...

Add some sort of "..." feature so that users can retain the width of Spark that they feel most comfortable with and yet to be able to view all the gateways and functions that they need.

as i have commented in SPARK-378 online gateways could show up left most, so they will be more visible if some sort of button stack or slider will be implemented

I would actually recommend rethinking the gateway icons and doing them another way. Clearly the "just put them amongst the other buttons" is not working out well or there wouldn't be all this discussion. Maybe change them to be some vertical side tab or something that attaches to the roster window. The button bar probably ought to remain as something for function buttons, not status indicators. (the status functionality is what makes the gateway ones unique)

I somewhat agree. I dont even need that functions toolbar. But i like to see gateway indicators.
