AIM can make it look like spaces are allowed in your screen name. In reality, they are just "formatted" with spaces, but your real screen name has none. That said, I should try to help with this.

I recently filed a related issue in Spark. Maybe we just need to handle the spaces better in Spark? AIM users are used to being able to format with spaces how they like. It might be odd for them to lose that feature when using the gateway.

Just so you know, I'll be taking care of this for things other than Spark too though. =) It really ought to be handled properly on my end. If the account really had spaces in it in AIM land, then I would say what I have now is fine. However, the account really doesn't have spaces in AIM land, just has a specially formatted thing, so I handle this by killing the spaces in the JID but leaving the spaces in the "display name" so to speak.
