Hello all,
I've been using Openfire for a long time, long before it was even called Openfire. It's been great, and I am really, truly impressed with it.
However, I'm having a problem. But I don't think the problem is actually Openfire. I think it's my MySQL server, but I'm not sure.
The same server that hosts our Jabber server (i.e. Openfire) also hosts several of our websites. These websites have a huge amount of content, all of which is stored in a MySQL database (same server as Openfire, but different database). As a result, I have enabled query caching to improve response times. It has helped the website problem, but I'm worried it's caused problems with Openfire.
The problem appears as a connection problem. Openfire seems to be running fine, but connections fail. They aren't blocked, but the clients seem to spend a lot of time "spinning their wheels" while trying to connect. Usually they just time out. So the port is open, but no one seems to be answering appropriately.
Most of my clients are Miranda IM (including me when I'm in Windows), but I've also observed the exact same problem with Pandion, Kopete on KDE3 and Kopete on KDE4. I've had others complain of the same trouble from Pidgin, but since I don't use Pidgin, I have not personally observed Pidgin failing. So it seems to be server related.
So my first question is, does query caching negatively impact Openfire? And two, if so, is there a workaround short of disabling query caching? I'd rather not have to store the OpenFire stuff in an entirely separate database system.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
