IM plugin dection OK, cannot log into trnsport agent

=) I totally forgot that that’'s what you were waiting on. My bad! Let me know!

Good morning

I’'ve been testing with MySQL. No database events in the log (as far as I could see). But still no MSN

Any ideas?

Hrm. Well just to let you know what that line means:

CVR 2 8.1.0178 8.1.0178 8.0.0787 http://msgr.dlservice.microsoft.com/download/1/A/4/1A4FEB1A-18E0-423A-B898-F6974 02E4F7F/Install_Messenger.exe http://get.live.com

this is a version check of sorts… I forget what 2 is, I think it’'s some sort of ''transaction id", and ignorable.

the first and second 8.1.0178 is the recommended version of MSN messenger to use. 8.0.0787 is the minimum version you can use. (anything older will be blocked) the next url is where you can go to download the latest messenger client. (obviously useless to us ) the last is where you can go to get “more information” on the msn live messenger client.

So I guess what I’‘m getting at is, nothing in this line is a problem. For what it’'s worth, we are identifying ourselves as version 8.1.0178.

I just wanted to let you all know why this isn’‘t telling me anything unfortunately. =( IF it were telling me more I could track down better what’‘s going on. I’'m still baffled as to what could be going on.

Hi jadestorm,

Maybe my complete debug logging provides some more information.

This log is after a client just launched Spark:

The msn icon in Spark stays grayed out. After clicking the “Sign in” option in the icons popup menu this is being logged:

And that’'s all. The msn icon stays grayed out. Nothing happens.

Anny ideas ?

Unfortunately that’‘s the same data I’‘ve gotten out of other logs. Just to make sure, there’'s no firewall blocking port 443 outgoing is there?

outgoing traffic is open on my system

Hey, from the machine you all are running openfire on, can you try going to this url:

https://nexus.passport.com/rdr/pprdr.asp

(it won’'t return anything useful to your browser or whatever, but it will clarify whether your machine can get to the nexus node or not =) )

BTW, GATE-242

By the way, during July, i log on my jabber platform as every day, and just noticed it did connect to the msn gateway…

Nothing changed in my configuratio, it just work perfectly now for 1,5 month …

It must have been because of the:

if cgraver && Date < July then

thing I had in there. ;D Kidding. Glad to hear it’s working!

damn, it was you !

Honestly, I am very happy as it is working non stop since that time. But nothing was changed in the configuration or network I am aware of, that’s so strange

Could be interesting to have a feedback from the other guy having the same problem, who posted in this thread.

Hello,

I restarted my openfire server today(no update or whatever), the same issue is raised: I see test successfull performed in admin tool for msn gateway but I never log into msn transport as exposed previously :s

S***t ! I was just getting used to it

I think about something which may be not the origin of the problem but how knows …

Here it is:

I think that my corp admin cut the proxy during august, as i was able to browse the web without specifying it in my browser by coming back from hollidays. It is no longer possible for few days.

But I was still able to use my MSN gateway since today, but no after the time I restarted openfire in the afternoon.

So, is it possible that the IM gateway needs for msn the initial connection to be without a proxy (wiich could have occured when it was down on my network), whereas the traffic afterwards doesn’t care about a proxy … just the first connection ? Is such a thing possible for the IM gateway for msn ?

just a wandering though

Regards,

cgravier.

Put simply, I don’t support proxies with the IM gateway plugin yet. I don’t understand proxies, I’ve never coded anything to support them, and I haven’t even tried installing one to test with yet. At some level all I can say is “you are on your own” with proxies for now. That said, if more people express an interest in GATE-130, I might bump it up the list, but it may speed the process up if folk can point me at good docs out there on the net somewhere on setting up your own proxy service under Linux (specifically CentOS 4 in this case). Generally I understand the concept of a proxy, but I don’t understand the 8 billion types I seem to see out there. For some reason every time I’ve attempted a google search I don’t get good results. Well, I guess that makes some sense… the words socks, http, and proxy get a lot of false positives. I’m all for having support for them, but “at present” I can’t really help.

It does sound like the cutting of the proxy is likely to be what made it work, so what it probably boils down to is, you need GATE-130. One of the connections that MSN makes is on port 443, the rest are on the standard port which is escaping me right now (1863 i think?).

I propose to try lighter work before going deep in proxies (bw we use squid)

Is it possible for yu to log every single connection related to IM gateway for msn right after your openfire is started and to give me the exhausted list of adress:port/protocol needed.

This way, I could check what is causing trouble. We will hence be able to settle if it a network issue or not at least.

What do you think of it ?

Probably but I don’t really have time right now =) I take it you don’t have access to any boxes outside of your corporation?

Well I have other boxes outside work but they are not directly exposed to the Internet, neither have I a personal DNS entry I can play with

DynDNS can be your friend ;D

they have a free service where you can either manually or programmatically tie your isp given ip address to a host name (myhost.dyndns.org or something like that) May or may not help you though.

I’ve exactly the same problem her with simmilar logentries. My jabber server is caged in a firewall DMZ. It only can access things i allow him to. The MSN connection test works. But i can’t login at last. One perhaps intersting thing: When i connect with “kopete” to MSN it works. When i use “adium” on my MAC (a gaim based client) it does NOT. It complains about SSL problems (sorry i don’t rememeber the exact messages).

Franktek,

I suggest you to read the thread:
